The word "treasure" speaks of something that the heart holds with great love and value. Something we treasure is important to us. It could be money, status, reputation, fame, or relationships. All these are pursuits that society dictates as necessary. To pursue something is to spend time and energy to obtain it. Whether it is a career, a desired partner, a reputation, or various forms of success, you will be spending the years of your life pursuing treasures. Jesus said that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also. This is very true because finding a treasure starts with a desire in our hearts to gain something to love and cherish. Once obtained, our hearts will protect it, and they will focus their affection on these things. Where we find our treasure speaks volumes about where our heart is. Jesus spoke of a treasure unlike any other. He told us a parable of a treasure hunter who, upon finding the treasure of all treasures, sold everything he had to possess this one treasure. It was a merchant who found a pearl of great price. It was a farmer who discovered land with great treasure. Both men sold everything they owned just to have this one treasure. To me, knowing Jesus is a treasure beyond comparison. When the eyes of my heart found the beauty contained in Him—His character and wonderful attributes as our Lord and Savior—I found rest; my search for anything else has stopped! He is our true treasure and knowing Him is the greatest treasure both in this life and in the life to come. How about you? Where is your treasure?
