What if later never comes?

There is much wisdom in redeeming the time we have right now. Much can be gained when we don’t assume there will be a tomorrow, so we don’t leave things undone until later. What if later never comes? What if tomorrow isn’t coming and today is your last day? Jesus told us not to worry about tomorrow because it will have its own troubles—troubles which might not even come if tomorrow is not coming. The only day you truly have is today.

The Bible speaks of the urgency of the present when it talks about your soul. It gives a wise and thoughtful warning not to postpone the most important decision you can make about your life. It says that when you hear God’s voice calling you, do not harden your heart and dismiss it, for now is the acceptable time; today is the day of salvation because it could be your only chance. Tomorrow is never guaranteed. This emphasizes the urgency of God’s offer of mercy and salvation, which will determine your eternal destiny when you die.

Another important aspect is cherishing the moments of each day rather than rushing through them. When we are aware that each day could be our last, we learn to slow down and appreciate every detail of life. We become grateful for every chance given. We love more and listen more. We look at our loved ones more intently. We smile more and savor the moments of life rather than just letting them pass.

Today, be thankful. Think of what you would have wished you had done before it is too late. Don’t think you will do it later. What if later never comes?
