What are you building your life on?

There is a story in the Bible about the wise man and a foolish man. The wise man built his house upon a rock, and the foolish man built his house upon the sands. When the rain and storm came down and started to pour over the houses, guess which house remained standing? This story tells us a very simple but wise advice to be careful about the foundation on which we are building our lives. There will be many foundations in life on which you might be building right now. Toxic relationships, fragile financial investments, or securities which rest on the temporary. There will be many things with transient values in this life. Fame, money, power, and prestige can be very tempting to invest in. We can spend our lives trying to attain them, but they are not permanent and also deceptive. They come promising happiness, but once we are deep into it, we discover how empty life can be even when surrounded with wealth and fame. Those that last are the simple things in life we sometimes take for granted. Our relationship with God, our loved ones, friends, and family, and the special moments when we create memories, help another human being, and the time we spend appreciating God’s creation. These are the things that last. What are you building your life on at the moment?
