What am I living for?

What am I living for? Have you ever asked yourself that question? Sometimes life becomes too hectic for us to even allow a moment to sit quietly and listen to our own thoughts. Reflecting on the reasons for our everyday routines and struggles is often pushed into the corners of our lives. We can simply go through the motions, day in and day out, until one day we are forced to stop and confront the question again. What do you wake up for each day? What keeps you going? I believe that knowing the "whys" of what we do helps ground us and determines the direction of our choices in life. We all reach a time when we realize there must be more to life than merely existing. When we have run the mills, tried everything life offers, and achieved the pinnacle of success, we are still left with this nagging question: Is there more to life than all this? At the end of the road of life there is this existential question waiting for us: What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul? When Jesus asked this of the weary people of His time, who were following Him for various reasons, the question invited them to ask themselves what they were living for and whether it would be worth it. Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, What shall it profit me if I gain all that I want but in the end lose my own soul?
