The chase

Almost everyone is chasing something in this day and age. Everyone wants to achieve something. Everyone chases after wealth, after a successful career, after someone, after a relationship. We spend our lives chasing and chasing something. At the end of it all, we sit down and reflect on all those things we spent our lifetime pursuing. We hang our heads and ask, Is there meaning to all this? What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul? This is a sobering question. This was what Jesus asked everyone: What shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Is there anything—anything of the greatest worth in this life—we can give in return for our soul? How much value is it to us if we lose our own soul after gaining everything in this world? This is a great question—the greatest question, in fact—when we are asked to weigh what is important. We live the life that we live and weigh everything in the end. We want our lives to make sense. We want to mean something, to show that we were not just born for nothing, but that our life has a purpose. This is why we are chasing after something. The moment we realize the emptiness within us, we try to fill the void inside with all the things we pursue. On and on, we live our lives chasing after what this world dictates we need. And at the end of the day, we try to make sense of it and still feel empty. Are you chasing after something? And will it be worth it in the end? What shall it profit you?
