How do you teach your heart to be still? The chaos of life can be overwhelming. If we do not watch out, we can be swept away by the storms of life and the noises around us buzzing through our minds and ears every single day! Chaos and noise from our phones, television screens, the people around us, the workplace, and even at home constantly pull us and compete for our attention. There is a great need to learn to be still and rediscover the balance of life—to look again at its beauty and to wonder at our mere existence. The sound of our breathing can be a source of amazement. How do you teach your heart to be still? Jesus taught His disciples this basic principle: Come away and rest a while. Withdraw from the chaos and rest. This is the first step in teaching your heart to be still. Come away. Step away from the chaos of life. Look for a quiet spot in your house and listen to your breathing. Feel the rhythm of your breath and teach your heart to wonder at your existence. Each breath reminds us that we owe this brief existence to the invisible God who gives us breath freely each day. Reflect on His goodness to you. Thank Him for your life. Whisper a prayer, casting all the cares of your heart into His capable hands. Take a deep breath and smile. Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Be still. Teach your heart to be still and remember, only let it hold what it can. The rest is not meant to be. Trust the process, no matter how chaotic and unpromising it appears at the moment. Trust. This is how you teach your heart to be still. Do you need stillness from the chaos of life? Is your heart overwhelmed?
