Our lives shouldn’t be about performing to become whatever society tells us to be. Life is about being the person God created us to be. It’s a journey of discovery, a discovery of our life’s purpose, understanding its meaning, and living out the person we have been created to be. Life isn’t about trying to become a version of someone or something. Life is for living. It’s for us to enjoy God’s creation, to delight in all that He has given us, to love and cherish the people God has surrounded us with. It is not about accumulating “stuff” you will one day leave behind. It is not about becoming famous or creating a name for yourself. It is about discovering the joy of living, seizing each moment, making each day count. It is a daily experience of joy and appreciation of all the wonderful gifts of God, no matter how small because most of the important things in life are free. King Solomon said in the book of Ecclesiastes: “There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.” God actually wants us to learn to enjoy the fruits of our labor! He takes pleasure when we enjoy His gifts and thrive in the talents He gave us. Eric Liddell, the famous “Flying Scotsman,” once said that God made him fast and when he runs, he feels God’s pleasure. He lived joyfully being the person God created him to be. Are you struggling to become someone, or have you already discovered the joy of being who God created you to be?
