Made for Another World

C. S. Lewis once said, “If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.”
When we look at all this world can offer and examine the desires in our hearts against these offerings, we find that none of them can fully satisfy the void inside us. This is why many who have attained great success, riches, and fame in this world end up feeling an acute
emptiness within their souls. All pursuits in this world lead back to itself; they will come back to haunt us. The Bible says we are to seek those things which are above, things that are unseen, for the things that are seen are temporary, but the things that are unseen are eternal. The unseen realm lies beyond this life where eternity dwells. This is another world, a more permanent world. Inside our souls lies an ache, a longing that could not be satisfied in this world because at the end of our journey here, each of us will be entering this “other” world. We are ultimately made for this “unseen” world. We long for things that money can’t buy. There is this “something,” a God-shaped vacuum inside our hearts.

Only He can fill this. This is what Jesus meant when He called on those who are hungry to come to Him, for He is the bread of life, and all who come to Him will finally be satisfied and will no longer be hungry. He is also the living water, and those who thirst are invited to come and drink, and they will not be thirsty again. He invited those who are weary and tired, searching for that which can satisfy the longings in their hearts, to come to him and find rest. Our hearts are restless until we find our rest in God. Have you found this rest?
