I love the Japanese design concept of wabi-sabi. It is refreshing to incorporate this same principle in the way we handle life and all its imperfections. In wabi-sabi design, we are told to embrace the imperfections that present themselves in the process of design. This principle is found in the way everything in nature balances itself. Everything in nature knows how to find a way even in the face of tough challenges. The roots of trees will find their way in an overcrowded forest. They learn to adapt to the demands of their environment. When we look at the beauty of variations while gazing over the mountains, we understand that the seeming disproportions and uneven surfaces are what make the mountains beautiful to behold. This is very true in our own lives. Sometimes, although we do not want setbacks and hardships, these are what make us stronger and more resilient. We learn to welcome them as part of our life's design. The struggles and triumphs hold equally important parts in the design of life. These imperfections are necessary ingredients making up our beautiful existence. Coupled with even the physical imperfections we sometimes find difficult to accept, embracing both will release within us our natural beauty designed wonderfully through all the imperfections of life. Do you find it hard to embrace imperfections?
