Here we are again! The leaves are changing colours. The greens are slowly turning to gold and bright yellows, with reds and orange hues filling our walkways and woodlands. It’s my favourite season. When the leaves start to fall from the trees they were once attached to, it reminds us that letting go is a natural part of life. It teaches us to let life happen by releasing hurt and grudges from our hearts, to let go of the past and embrace the present moments with their own new colours and beauty. Autumn can be both lonely and joyful. It can be lonely when we watch the death of the past, but joyful when we see the arrival of a new season. This season is reflective. It enables us to watch life through the changing of colours as a way of dying. It’s life. It always gives way to the new. This process is beautiful. It’s the way life is. It has a way of flowing lightly with time. The shortness of life reveals this to us. The Bible speaks of life being like the flowers in the field—here today but gone tomorrow. This season, allow yourself some time to meditate on the beauty of life and appreciate this wonderful gift. Just being alive and feeling life itself is reason enough to be grateful each day. Do you feel grateful to be alive?
