One of my favorite quotes is C.S. Lewis's famous quote, "The Chisel," which says, "You see, we are like blocks of stone out of which the Sculptor carves the forms of men. The blows of his chisel, which hurt us so much, are what make us perfect." In life, we go through many hardships and pain. We don’t particularly like them, but they come anyway because they are part of life. There is no way we can avoid them. It comes in many forms and sizes to each one of us, but they are inevitable. Sometimes you can go through terrible situations in life and maybe you are wishing it’s not happening to you. But these are necessary blows which will shape who you are and give you the strength of character needed to help you stand the test of time. As the sculptor puts his chisel on areas needing perfection, the harder the blow, the more impact it has on the shape of the sculpture making it perfect. It is like going to the gym to build and shape your muscles. When you first start your training, it hurts your ligaments and muscles because of the strains and the pulling when lifting weights and exercising. This makes you want to quit at first. But when you push through the routines, you get rewarded with good results. Remember, what doesn’t hurt does nothing! What gives you the most pain, gives you the most beauty! How much longer can you endure to see your result? Would you hang on?
