The older we get, the deeper and simpler life becomes. We stop chasing dreams and start looking for peace and calm. When we were younger, we were excited about promotions at work and stressed about being late for a meeting. As time goes by and we near the end, we begin to reflect on life and no longer want to waste our energy on trivial things. We become content with what we have and desire peace and joy in our hearts more than anything else. We prefer peace and quiet—no more chasing after what the world demands. We start to retreat to our little world and discover that, after all these years, this is actually what we have been seeking: peace, joy in little things. We begin to cherish small moments with the people we love. The smell of morning coffee gives us quiet satisfaction. We appreciate calm mornings as opposed to the stress of rush hour. Life has its stages, but it is in growing old that we return to what is truly important: the simple things. The Bible says, "Godliness with contentment is great gain." We discover this only as time passes and when growing old forces us to slow down and stop the endless chase society imposes upon us. What about you? What is life teaching you as time goes by?
