Have you ever wondered why you are inclined to worry about many things and why there is always a fear of the future at the back of your mind? The present turmoil around us instils within us a kind of unsettling fear about what will happen next. The uncertainties in our political and economic landscape cause us to worry about the future of our children. But these realities we are experiencing right now in our world are the reason why Jesus warned us before He left that in this world we will have tribulation. Yet He encouraged us to be of good cheer and not to pay attention to these things because He said that He has overcome the world and its system.
As we live in a world full of negative news and troubles, the Bible has given us an antidote for fear and worry. It says to set your minds on things above, not on earthly things—to shift our focus and take our eyes off what we can see and look for the things our eyes cannot see—for the things that are seen are temporary. But these things we cannot see are eternal.
In this day and age, it is very easy to lose sight of what truly matters. It is easy to focus on what is going on in the world and take our eyes off God. The antidote is to change your focus—take your eyes off what gives you fear, what makes you worry. Keep your eyes on the things above, your eyes looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith. Are you beginning to lose hope and worry about the state of our world? Is it time to shift your focus?
