Have you ever felt burdened by the countless items you've gathered but never truly use? Unworn clothes hanging in your closet, untouched shoes tucked away in the cupboard, extra pillows, spare lights, additional bags, surplus curtains, blankets, makeup—the list seems endless. Sometimes, the weight of our belongings overwhelms us, and when we pause to reflect, the harsh reality of consumerism hits like a blow. Feeling overwhelmed and disheartened, we wonder: how did we end up here?

After years of impulsive buying, influenced by persuasive ads urging us to acquire things we don’t really need, we find ourselves drowning in excess. If we don’t pause to reflect on where this path leads and what it costs us, this burden of possessions can consume us. The Bible speaks of contentment as a great gain, highlighting that godliness combined with contentment brings immense benefits. But what exactly is contentment? It is a state of the heart that acknowledges, “I have enough,” and feels grateful for what is already possessed. It is the sincere joy in having just a little, knowing that it fulfills all needs. Godliness means having God at the center of one’s heart—where He belongs—and letting everything else fall into place. This is a treasure no one can take away: the ability to find happiness and peace with little. It is liberation from the endless craving for more—a desire that never ceases.

Once we begin the cycle of uncontrolled accumulation, it tends to spiral, driven by a profound human flaw known as greed. This restless urge to want more weighs heavily upon us when we finally recognize its cost. It steals our true joy and the precious moments meant to be cherished. It robs us of peace and the freedom that contentment and satisfaction bring. Are you weighed down by possessions you don’t genuinely need? Have you paused to examine the things around you and asked yourself: do I really need all of this?
