Yesterday, I was reminded of this beautiful hymn which has been my favorite since I came to know Jesus. Written by a British handicapped woman named Charlotte Elliott in 1835, who felt that because of her disability, she had nothing left to offer God. However, she discovered that she could still put words on paper and wrote what was in her heart, deciding to compose this powerful hymn. This hymn has touched the lives of notable Christians in history, such as C.S. Lewis and the famous Billy Graham, who came to Christ through this hymn. He then used it as his signature invitation song every time he invited people to give their lives to Christ at his meetings. "Just As I Am" speaks of God’s willingness to receive us to Himself just as we are. He is not asking us to be perfect or whole because He came for all of us who are imperfect and broken. He understands the brokenness that our sins and rebellion have caused in our lives, and Jesus came to make us whole again. Are you struggling with feelings of unworthiness? Do you believe there is nothing left in you to offer God? Listen to this hymn. Hear God’s loving invitation for you to come to Him just as you are, with all the mess and brokenness in your life. Will you come just as you are?
