Do you feel guilty when doing nothing? There are times when we need to view rest as a necessary part of life. God Himself left us an example to rest from our labor. Allowing time for rest and relaxation is part of being productive. God rested on the seventh day and made it holy, setting it apart as a special day. This day is distinct from the others, allowing us to rest from our work and learn to reflect and give thanks for everything. Rest should not be an option but an essential part of life. God created night and day and designed our brains with a circadian rhythm so our bodies can regulate proper rest times for recuperation each day. Jesus told His disciples to come away and rest a while when they were too busy with their ministry and had no time to even eat. They withdrew from the people and went to the other side of the lake. Burnout is not conducive to a balanced life. A life pleasing to God is one that is relaxed and rested. It honors God when we rest. If you are experiencing stress and difficulties, perhaps it’s time to rest for a while. Not resting can harm our mind, body, and emotions. Even butterflies rest when it rains because it damages their wings. It’s okay to rest during the storms of life. You’ll fly again when it’s over. Do you find it hard to rest?
