Be still

Be still when all around you is chaos and turmoil. Be still when your heart cries out for silence and stillness. Be still. Be present. There is power in being still. There is trust. There is peace. Peace that surpasses all understanding. To be still is to rest and let go. It is in being still that we learn to understand the issues of life. God says, "Be still and know that I am God." He said this in the context of war and catastrophe. The setting was a completely chaotic scenario, and then God came on the scene, telling all His creation: "Be still and know that I am God." Being still opens up our spiritual ears. We can hear what God is saying when we silence all the other voices inside our hearts. It is in being still that we can look closely into the character and attributes of God. It is when we get the chance to behold Him. To be still is to know that He is God. He rules over the affairs of men. He is sovereign over all the events of life. He reigns supreme among all the other gods and rulers of this world. Today, learn to be still. Trust the silence of your heart. Many problems and questions in life find their answers in stillness. When the struggling ceases, we begin to understand. Do you find it hard to be still?
